Print shops get files in every format imaginable, and the wrong one causes real problems โ blurry edges, wrong colors, or a design that can't scale without quality loss. Here's when each format actually belongs.

Why vector wins for logos and text
A vector file (SVG, EPS, AI) stores shapes as math, not pixels โ it can be printed on a business card or a 10-foot banner from the same file with identical sharpness. If a design is going to be resized often or printed very large, vector is the only format that doesn't degrade.
When PNG is the right raster choice
PNG supports transparency, which matters enormously for DTF transfers, stickers, and anything that needs to sit on a colored garment without a visible white background box. PNG is lossless, so it won't introduce compression artifacts the way JPG can around sharp edges and text.
When JPG is actually fine
For full-bleed photographs with no transparency needed โ a photo print, a sublimation mug wrap โ JPG's smaller file size is a real advantage with no visible quality cost, as long as you're not re-saving the same JPG repeatedly (each re-save adds compression loss).
Converting between formats without losing quality
Going from raster to vector (JPG to SVG) can't recover detail that was never there โ vectorizing a blurry photo just produces a blurry vector. But converting cleanly between raster formats, or exporting a true vector logo to whatever format your press software needs, is safe and lossless when done right.
