How to Price DTF Transfers and Gang Sheets (Real Numbers)

Most new DTF shops price by "feel" for the first few months, then wonder why margins are thin. Pricing by square inch, with real material cost as the baseline, fixes that fast.
Start with cost per square inch
Add up your real per-sheet costs โ DTF film, powder, ink, press time, and labor โ and divide by the sheet's usable area (sheet size minus safe margin). That gives you a raw cost-per-square-inch baseline. A typical 22"ร24" sheet has roughly 500 usable square inches after margins.
A simple worked example

Retail pricing typically runs 3โ6x raw material cost to cover overhead, waste, and profit โ so a 4"ร4" transfer (16 sq in) costing roughly $0.20 in raw material might retail for $3โ6 depending on your market and volume.
Why layout efficiency is a pricing lever, not just a nice-to-have
A sloppily arranged sheet with big gaps between designs wastes material you're still paying for. Tight, auto-filled layouts push more usable prints per sheet, which directly lowers your real cost per unit โ the same pricing model gets more profitable just by packing sheets better.
Don't forget the small stuff
Trimming time, packaging, and rush-order premiums all belong in your pricing model too. A per-square-inch baseline gets you a fair starting number โ build the rest of your pricing structure (minimums, bulk discounts, rush fees) on top of it.
