How to Make a Digital Lookbook or Catalog PDF From Product Photos

A digital lookbook or product catalog is genuinely just a well-organized set of photos combined into one PDF — the "design software" step a lot of people assume is required is optional if the photos themselves are already consistent and you're mainly solving for order, sizing, and navigation.

Get the photos consistent first

Before combining anything, make sure every product photo is the same aspect ratio and roughly the same resolution — a catalog with wildly different page proportions from photo to photo looks unfinished, even with perfect content on each page. Resize and crop to a consistent ratio as a batch before assembling.

Decide the order deliberately

Group by category, price point, or however your customers actually browse — not just the order the photos happen to sit in a folder. A catalog's page order is effectively its navigation, so it's worth a few minutes of deliberate planning before combining.

Combine into one PDF

Once photos are sorted and sized consistently, combine them into a single multi-page PDF in that order — each photo becomes one catalog page. This is the same underlying step as turning any batch of photos into a PDF, just with more care put into the prep beforehand.

Add page numbers for easy reference

A numbered catalog is much easier to reference in conversation ("check out page 6") than an unnumbered one — add page numbers after combining, in a bottom corner that doesn't overlap the product photos.

Compress before sending

A catalog with many full-resolution photos can become a very large file — compress the finished PDF before emailing or sharing it, checking that image quality still holds up at the size it'll actually be viewed at (usually a screen, not print).
