A folder of fifty photos named IMG_0001.jpg through IMG_0050.jpg tells you nothing about what's in any of them, and renaming each one individually is exactly the kind of tedious task that gets skipped — which is how meaningless file names end up live on a website or shop listing in the first place. A repeatable renaming pattern turns this from a chore into a five-minute batch step.
Design the pattern before you start
Decide on a template like [product-name]-[variant]-[number], for example floral-tote-bag-navy-01.jpg, floral-tote-bag-navy-02.jpg, and so on. Having the pattern decided before you touch a single file means you're filling in a template rather than making a fresh naming decision for every photo, which is both faster and more consistent.
Sort visually first
Before renaming, sort the folder by thumbnail preview and arrange photos into the order you actually want them numbered — front, back, detail shot, in-use shot, etc. — rather than the arbitrary order they came off the camera. Renaming in a sensible order means the numbering itself communicates something (01 is always the hero shot, 02 is always the detail shot) across your whole catalog.

Keep the pattern consistent across products
