Heat press settings aren't one-size-fits-all โ the wrong temperature on the wrong fabric either fails to bond the transfer or scorches the garment. Always test on a scrap piece first, since press calibration varies machine to machine.
General starting points by fabric

Why pressure matters as much as temperature
Medium-firm, even pressure is the standard for most DTF and vinyl transfers. Too little pressure leaves the transfer poorly bonded and prone to cracking after a few washes; too much pressure on thin or heat-sensitive fabric can cause scorching or fabric distortion even at a correct temperature.
The peel matters too
Hot peel vs cold peel depends entirely on the specific film or vinyl you're using โ check the manufacturer's spec, since peeling at the wrong temperature (too early on a cold-peel product, too late on a hot-peel one) is a common cause of transfers lifting or cracking that has nothing to do with press settings at all.
Always test first
Press settings drift between machines even at the same nominal temperature โ press calibration, platen material, and ambient humidity all shift real results. Test on a scrap piece of the actual fabric before running a full order, every time you switch fabric type or film brand.
