Needle and thread mismatches cause more embroidery problems than digitizing quality does โ skipped stitches, frequent breaks, and visible puckering usually trace back to the wrong needle or thread weight for the fabric, not a bad design file.
Needle sizing basics

Sharp needles pierce woven fabric cleanly; ballpoint needles push between knit fibers instead of piercing them, preventing runs and holes in stretchy material.
Thread weight, in plain terms
Thread weight numbers work backwards from what feels intuitive โ a lower number means thicker thread. 40wt is the standard general-purpose weight for most commercial embroidery. 60wt is finer, used for detailed lettering and small text where a thick thread would blur fine detail. 12wt is much thicker, used for bold decorative effects, not fine detail.
Common symptom-to-cause pairings

When in doubt, test on scrap fabric
A quick test run on the actual fabric (not a similar-feeling substitute) catches needle and thread mismatches before they show up on a real order โ five minutes of testing is cheaper than a redo.
