DTF Transfer Sizes for Caps: The Complete Guide

Caps are one of the easiest items to get wrong on a DTF press โ the curved surface and small panel size punish oversized artwork fast. Here are the placement sizes that actually work.
Standard cap placement sizes

The front panel is curved, so anything wider than about 5" starts to distort visibly at the edges once pressed โ even if it looked fine flat on your monitor.
Why cap presses fail more than flat garment presses
Three things cause most cap-transfer failures: too much pressure on a curved cap platen (which cracks the transfer film at the edges), artwork sized for a flat shirt press and shrunk down without checking curvature, and low-resolution source art that only becomes visibly pixelated once it's small enough to fit a cap panel โ ironically the opposite of what people expect.
Resolution still matters at small sizes
A 2.5" wide logo needs roughly 750px of real width at 300 DPI. A logo pulled from a website (usually 72โ150 DPI) will look fine on screen but soft or blocky once pressed, because cap placements sit close to the viewer's eye. Always check your source file's actual resolution against the print size before sending it to press โ not after.
Building a cap-transfer gang sheet
Because cap placements are small, a single 22"ร24" gang sheet can typically fit 20โ40+ small logos depending on size and spacing. Group same-size designs together rather than mixing large back-panel transfers with tiny side-panel logos on the same sheet โ it wastes less material and makes trimming faster.
